The lack of affordable and readily available housing is a major contributing factor to
the increase in domestic violence. Women and children are forced to choose between two bad options: risking more violence by continuing to live with their abusers, or to leave the house and try to survive on the streets.
By using inovative products and contrstuction methods, Jiffy Blocks can reduce waste, limit the amount of expensive lumber required and streamline the contstruction process.
The preferred method is to build on a concrete slab with embedded 1/2" bolts to securely attach a dimensional wood sill plate of the same width as the block, with a 3/4" thick strip on top of the plate that matches the width of the bottom slot.

Jiffy Blocks all come in 8' lengths and 24" or 12" heights. There are 3 standard thicknesses, 3.5", 5.5", and 7.25". The thicker blocks are used for exterior walls and the 3.5" blocks are typically used for the interior walls.
Dimensional lumber is glued and placed in the slots between each row of Jiffy Blocks and then stacked until the desired height is reached.
The top plate consists of dimensional lumber matching the thickness of the Jiffy Blocks with a 3/4" strip on the underside to fit & be glued in the top slot of the Jiffy Block. A second layer of two by lumber added on top is recommended for added strength.
Roofs & Ceilings sections are constructed of engineered lumber I-beams with Jiffy Blocks glued between each beam. All standard roof styles can be accomodated by using these sections.
Jiffy Blocks are made from high-density EPS foam and are 8 feet long and are either 1 or 2 feet tall and stacked in a brick-like pattern. Wall blocks come in 3 standard thicknesses, 3.5", 5.5", and 7.25". Each block is lightweight and can easily be handled by one or two people.
Jiffy Blocks have slots on the top and bottom of each block to allow a minimal amount of dimensional lumber to be used as ribs. This greatly simplifies the attachment of cabinetry, doors, and windows, etc. The entire structure is then coated in a special compound that seals all cracks and strengthens the entire building.
Jiffy Blocks are engineered to meet building requirements and with typical insulation values in the R24 to R60 range and yet still be extremely cost effective. They can be assembled using basic construction skills. In addition, the coating used on both sides of the Jiffy Blocks not only adds strength but also provides superior resistance to fire and pest damage.
